Resource Reservation

The Access Profiles described in this section can be configured with Resource Reservation as an additional access control layer. Without Resource Reservation, any authorized user can connect to a profile’s target at any time; with Resource Reservation enabled, users must reserve a time slot in advance and can connect only during their reserved window.

Resource Reservation is a Thinfinity® Workspace add-on. It is not specific to Access Profiles linked to Cloud Manager targets — the integration happens entirely through the Access Profile.

This article covers only the part of Resource Reservation that touches the Cloud Manager-related Access Profile workflow: how an Access Profile is made bookable, and the two configuration fields exposed in the Access Profile’s Resource Reservation tab. For the full feature reference — how to enable Resource Reservation, how to grant booking rights, the global booking-system settings, and the end-user calendar experience — see the Resource Reservation section in the Thinfinity Workspace product manual.

Configuring Resource Reservation on an Access Profile

Adding Resource Reservation to an Access Profile involves two pieces — granting the right booking permissions to users, and setting the reservation parameters on the profile itself.

Granting Booking Rights

An Access Profile becomes bookable when the users associated with it are granted appropriate booking permissions — typically organized into permission groups such as Approver and Requester. These groups, and the underlying permissions they’re built from, are configured in the standard Thinfinity Workspace access management interface. See Permission Groups in the Thinfinity Workspace product manual for the full procedure.

The Resource Reservation Tab in the Access Profile Editor

The Resource Reservation tab in the Access Profile editor exposes the following fields:

Field Description
Booked access only Toggle. When on, the profile becomes bookable — users can connect only through a reservation. When off, the profile is open to direct connection without a reservation step.
Allow booking for Dropdown that determines who can make reservations on this profile. Options: Attendees (users granted Requester permissions only), Organizers (users granted Approver permissions only), or Organizers and Attendees (both).
Booking limit Maximum number of concurrent reservations allowed at any single time. Set this to a value at or below the model’s Max Instances Count (in the model’s General settings when Allow Pool Mode is enabled) so reservations are never accepted beyond the pool’s serving capacity.
Buffer Time, in minutes, before each reservation that Cloud Manager pre-warms the target instance. Allows time for power-on or provisioning so the instance is ready when the user connects.
Organizers List of users granted the Organizer (Approver) role on this profile. Organizers can approve or deny reservation requests made by Attendees and can manage the profile’s reservation calendar.

The remaining Resource Reservation configuration — including the global booking-system settings (Maximum booking time, Time Selector Interval, Grace Period, Exception Dates) — is managed from the Resource Reservation add-on’s main screen in Thinfinity Workspace, not from the Access Profile editor.

Accessing the Resource Reservation Add-on

The Resource Reservation main screen is not accessible directly from Cloud Manager. To open it:

  • In Thinfinity Workspace, open the user menu in the top-right corner and select Resource Reservation under Add-ons.
  • Alternatively, click the calendar button shown in the lower-right corner of any bookable Access Profile’s tile in Workspace.
