Overview

Thinfinity® Cloud Manager provides several monitoring surfaces to help administrators track the health and activity of models, instances, and lifecycle events. This chapter is the entry point to those surfaces and to the troubleshooting guides that pair with them — use the monitoring articles to inspect what’s happening, and the troubleshooting sub-section to trace symptoms back to a root cause.

For live and historical user session monitoring, see the separate Analytics and Monitoring add-ons in the Thinfinity® Workspace product manual. Session viewing is not part of Cloud Manager’s monitoring scope.

Monitoring Surfaces

Cloud Manager’s monitoring surfaces are scoped to a single model at a time, with per-instance and per-deployment drill-down. The three surfaces below are the primary inspection points; for cross-cutting analytics across multiple models or integration with external observability platforms, forward instance and deployment logs to your external monitoring stack.

Surface What It Shows For details
Instances tab (per model) Individual instance state, IP address, assigned users, active users, and per-row actions Instance and Pool Health
Deployments tab (per model) Terraform deployment records — state, message, and the resources each deployment created Instance and Deployment Logs
View Log dialogs Per-instance and per-deployment action logs Instance and Deployment Logs

For the individual instance status reference, see Instance States and Lifecycle.

Status Indicators Reference

The following indicators appear consistently across the monitoring views:

Instance Status

The leftmost column of the Instances table renders a colored status icon. The label shown for each instance reflects its current simpleStatus; the icon color groups statuses into broad categories.

Color Status Label Meaning
🟢 (green) Active The VM is running and accepting connections
🔴 (red) Inactive The VM is powered off but still provisioned
🟡 (yellow) Activating, Inactivating, Provisioning, or Creating Image A power or lifecycle transition is in progress
⚪ (gray) Deleting A Terraform Destroy is in progress; the instance and its record are being removed

Two overlay icons can appear on top of the status icon:

  • A forbidden overlay (🚫) indicates the instance is administratively disabled (record state Disabled) — users cannot be assigned to it even though the VM may still be running.
  • An alert overlay (⚠️) replaces the status icon when the instance has an error (record state Error).

For the full state model, see Instance States and Lifecycle.

Deployment Status

Status Meaning
Started Terraform Apply or Destroy is in progress
Success Operation completed successfully
Error Operation failed — see the deployment log for details
Deleted The deployment was destroyed and removed

A small secondary icon next to the status reflects the action that produced the state — Creation (Terraform Apply) or Destruction (Terraform Destroy).

Troubleshooting

The Troubleshooting sub-section covers what to do when something behaves unexpectedly. It is organized by root cause — connectivity, provisioning, access profile errors, Terraform-layer errors, and Staged Power On/Off issues — so you can move from a symptom or an error message to a specific diagnostic guide. Use it when a monitoring surface shows an instance in Error, a deployment fails, or a user reports a problem opening an Access Profile.
