Instance and Deployment Logs

Thinfinity® Cloud Manager maintains separate logs for each instance and each deployment, surfaced through two different View Log dialogs depending on which row you open it from:

  • Per-instance log — opens the broker’s Audit Log dialog with Cloud Manager-specific filters pre-applied.
  • Per-deployment log — opens a simpler Terraform-output dialog scoped to a single deployment.

The Audit Log is the audit surface shared across Thinfinity® Workspace for the Audit, Analytics, and Cloud Manager channels — for details, see Audit Log and Analytics in the Thinfinity Workspace product manual.

Per-Instance Log

The View Log action on an instance opens the broker’s Audit Log dialog with two filters pre-applied: Channel = Cloud Manager and Resource = the selected instance. The dialog is scoped to the selected instance’s Cloud Manager events.

Accessing the Dialog

Open the View Log for an instance in one of two ways:

  • Click the instance’s status icon in the leftmost column of the Instances table.
  • Click the View Log action in the row’s Actions column.

The dialog title is {instance name} Log (for example, TW-Server[2] Log). The body shows the Audit Events section. The event table offers the same controls as the broker’s Audit Log, including the rows-per-page selector in the table footer (10, 20, 50, or 100 events per page).

Pre-Applied Controls

When opened from Cloud Manager, the dialog displays four controls at the top:

Control Default Value Editable
Columns 8 items selected (see Default Columns below) Click to add or remove columns from the picker
Ranges All Click to constrain to a date/time range
Channel Cloud Manager Locked — the dialog only shows Cloud Manager events
Resource {instance name} Locked — scoped to the selected instance

Click + Add filter to apply additional filters from the broker’s full filter set — for example by Activity, Actor, Status, or Level.

Default Columns

The dialog opens with 8 columns selected by default:

Column Description
Start When the event was recorded.
Component The internal component that emitted the event.
Source Where the event originated (broker subsystem).
Activity The activity type — for example, registration, configuration, parameter change, or snapshot. The activity catalog is shared across all Workspace channels.
Actor The user, service account, or system identity that performed the action.
Peer IP Source IP of the actor (when applicable).
Status Outcome status of the activity.
Text Free-text description of the event.

Additional columns can be added through the Columns control — including Level, Channel, Resource, Action, Process, Thread, Data, Old Data, and Error.

Per-Deployment Log

Each Terraform deployment has its own log, separate from the per-instance Audit Log. The deployment log records the lifecycle of the Terraform Apply (creation) or Destroy operation that created or removed a batch of instances.

Accessing the Log

  1. Open the model in Cloud Manager and click the Deployments tab next to Instances.
  2. Locate the deployment row.
  3. Click View Log (the search icon) in the row’s Actions column.

This opens a separate, simpler dialog dedicated to the deployment’s Terraform output — it does not open the broker-wide Audit Log.

Columns

Column Description
TimeStamp When the entry was recorded.
Entry Type The kind of entry — typically Info, Result, or Error.
Text Free-text description (one Terraform output line per entry).

The dialog also offers Refresh and Clear Filters controls in its header.

Info

For a snapshot of the resources Terraform actually provisioned, use the View State action in the same row’s Actions column. It opens the View Deployment State dialog — a read-only code viewer showing the deployment’s terraform.tfstate file in full (version, terraform_version, serial, lineage, outputs, resources, check_results). Use it to confirm exactly which resources were created (VMs, NICs, IPs, disks). View State is gated by the Deployments — View State permission (Cloud Manager Permissions).

Log Architecture

Instance audit entries and deployment logs are recorded as two separate log sources — the Audit Log’s Cloud Manager channel for instance-level events, and the deployment Terraform log for per-deployment output. The two sources are not merged in Cloud Manager’s UI.

Log retention is governed by the broker’s audit retention policy, not by a per-dialog setting. The Workspace Analytics & Audit feature is the in-product surface for broker-wide audit analytics across all channels (Audit, Analytics, Cloud Manager) — historical queries, cross-resource investigations, and per-tab export of records. See Analytics & Audit in the Thinfinity Workspace product manual.

For deeper integration with external observability platforms — SIEM ingestion, dashboarding, alerting, cross-platform compliance — Thinfinity Workspace exports telemetry over OTLP (OpenTelemetry Protocol). Configure the destination in Configuration Manager, under the Telemetry tab.
