Database Configuration Overview

Do not use the built-in local database for production.

The default local database (Absolute Database) is a convenience for evaluation and single-server test setups only. Production environments — including presales demos with real customer data — must use an external database. MySQL is preferred; PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and MariaDB are also supported.

For separation of concerns and easier maintenance, we recommend two databases:

  • One for profiles and configuration (access profiles, RBAC, authentication mappings).
  • One for analytics and audit log.

See Database Requirements for supported versions and connectivity details.

Thinfinity® Workspace is configured by default to use a shared local database, which is powered by Absolute Database. This Delphi-based engine is known for its compact footprint, good performance, and reliability.

However, you have the flexibility to configure dedicated databases for individual system components, such as Access and Authentication Profiles or the Enterprise Logger. For more information, refer to the Database Tab.

If you want to use a SQL database instead of the default option, please consult the relevant article in our Knowledge Base for detailed instructions on configuring and connecting it to Thinfinity Workspace.
