Server Hardware, Software, and Database Requirements
Please note that the following requirements apply to deployments supporting a maximum of 100 users. For deployments exceeding 100 users, please contact our support team for specific requirements.
| Role/Setup | CPU | RAM | Storage |
|---|---|---|---|
| All-In-One setup/Remote Desktop Services Machine | Quad-core processor (Intel or AMD) with a clock speed of 2.0 GHz or higher | 16 GB | 50 GB of free space on a solid-state drive (SSD) |
| Gateway Services Machine | 8 CPUs (4 CPUs for >100 concurrent users) | 16 GB | 80 GB |
| Primary/Secondary Broker | 8 CPUs | 16 GB | 100 GB |
OS requirements for all setups and roles:
- Windows 11 (64-bit) and later
- Windows Server 2019 or 2022 (64-bit) and later
Although Windows Server 2003 is technically supported by the installer for legacy reasons, it is highly recommended to use Windows Server 2019 or 2022 for production to ensure compatibility with modern TLS 1.3 encryption and security protocols used by Thinfinity.
Database Requirements
The default local database (Absolute Database) is a convenience for evaluation and single-server test setups only. Production environments — including presales demos with real customer data — must use an external database. MySQL is preferred; PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and MariaDB are also supported (see the Supported Databases table below).
For separation of concerns and easier maintenance, we recommend two databases:
- One for profiles and configuration (access profiles, RBAC, authentication mappings).
- One for analytics and audit log.
Supported Databases
Thinfinity® Workspace requires a database to store user profiles, RBAC (Role-Based Access Control) rules, authentication mappings, and audit logs. By default, it utilizes a shared local database powered by Absolute Database, a Delphi-based engine. Alternatively, it also supports the following database types.
| DB | Supported version |
|---|---|
| Microsoft SQL Server | SQL Server 2016, 2019, 2022, and SQL Server 2025 (Standard, Enterprise, and Express editions). |
| MySQL | Version 5.7, 8.0, and newer. Supported on-premises or as a managed service (e.g., Oracle Cloud OCI MySQL HeatWave). |
| MariaDB | Version 10.3 to 10.11 and newer. Supported on-premises or as a managed service (e.g., IONOS Cloud MariaDB). |
| PostgreSQL | Version 16 and newer. |
Connectivity Requirements
- ODBC Driver: The corresponding ODBC driver must be installed on the machine running Configuration Manager (typically the Primary Broker) so its Test Connection button can validate the settings: SQL ODBC Driver 18 (or newer) for SQL Server, PostgreSQL ODBC Driver 18 (or newer) for PostgreSQL.
- Network Ports: The Broker must have outbound access to the database server. Default ports are typically TCP 1433 for SQL Server, TCP 3306 for MySQL/MariaDB, and TCP 5432 for PostgreSQL.
- Permissions: The database user account must have permissions to create tables and perform CRUD (Create, Read, Update, Delete) operations within the designated Thinfinity database.
