Upgrading Thinfinity Workspace

To perform a safe upgrade of Thinfinity® Workspace, follow the procedure described below:

1

Back Up the Configuration (Crucial)

It is a recommended good practice to keep a backup of your configuration before any product update, even if the process is expected to go smoothly. To protect your sensitive data, you must manually back up the following folders:

  • C:\ProgramData\Cybele Software\Thinfinity: This folder contains critical system information, including user data, access profiles, and identity provider mappings.

  • C:\Users\Public\Documents\Cybele Software: This directory stores other sensitive Thinfinity Workspace settings and configuration files.

Warning

An upgrade or reinstall overwrites customized files in the installation folder — including a custom wag-headers.json used to keep Web Application Gateway sessions active. Keep such customizations in the database folder (under C:\ProgramData\Cybele Software\Thinfinity, already covered by the backup above) — that copy takes precedence and is preserved across updates — or back them up separately before upgrading. See Keeping WAG Sessions Active.

2

Prepare the Environment

  • Stop Services: General best practices for Windows software suggest ensuring all Thinfinity services are stopped to prevent file-locking during the overwrite.
  • Verify Requirements: Ensure your current server still meets the system requirements for the new version, specifically regarding the Windows Server version and the required ODBC Driver 18 for database connections.
3

Run the Installer

  • Download: Obtain the latest installation package from the Cybele Product Downloads page.
  • Execute: Run the installer on the target machine. First remove the existing version and then install the new one. Because Thinfinity uses a single installer for all nodes, it will detect the existing installation and update the components currently residing on that server.
  • Silent Upgrade: If you are performing a network-wide deployment, you can use the msiexec component to perform a silent upgrade using command-line arguments or a JSON structure.
4

Post-Upgrade Verification

After the installer completes, you should:

  • Launch Thinfinity Configuration Manager: Verify that the previously assigned Role (All-in-one, Gateway, or Broker) is still correctly selected in the Services tab.
  • Check Services: Confirm that all associated services are running and available.
  • Test Connectivity: Log in to the web interface to verify that user profiles and resource mappings have been preserved.
