Configuring Roles in Thinfinity Workspace

This article describes the configuration of the main Thinfinity® Workspace components needed for a basic production environment: Gateway, Primary Broker, and Secondary Broker.

AD Cache is also part of this same installer and this same Services tab, but only offered as a role when the machine is joined to an Active Directory domain — see Understanding AD Cache, and Configuring Thinfinity AD Cache for the setup steps. Agent and VirtualUI Agent, covered in their own articles below, are different: they are the two roles assigned automatically when the machine is set up with the separate Agent package, not selected from the main Workspace installer. For the complete list of installation roles and the conditions under which each one appears, see Services Tab.

Important concept

The role selection and subsequent configuration described below are performed during the initial Workspace setup wizard. Changing the role at a later time follows the same logic and options.

Operational note

Depending on the selected role, the set of running services will change automatically. This is expected behavior and does not require manual service management. In addition, enabling or disabling services affects the visibility of the corresponding service tabs.

General Workflow (Common to All Roles)

The configuration process for all roles follows a common pattern:

  1. Select the Workspace role from the Services tab.
  2. Apply the role change.
  3. Configure role-specific parameters (Network ID, bindings, permissions).
  4. Apply changes to commit the configuration.

Please see the following sections for details on how to configure each type of component.
